SPECIAL MEETING
July 26, 2007
7:00 P.M.

Members Present: Susan Borcher, Mike Gerdes, Teresa Goracke, Barb Gottula, Greg Hunzeker, Steve Nolte

Also Present:  Jack Moles, Superintendent; Kirk Gottschalk, K-8 Principal; Rick Lester, 9-12 Principal

The Johnson County School District No. 0050 Board of Education met in special session at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007, in the cafeteria of the high school in Tecumseh. The purpose of the meeting was to consider policy revisions, approve handbooks, consider lunch/breakfast prices, and to consider milk bids.

Steve Nolte called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. and stated that a copy of the Open Meetings Law was available for review.

A hearing on the Student Fees Policy was held. Supt. Moles explained the rationale for the policy and the proposed changes to the policy. There being no public comment on the policy the hearing was adjourned.

A hearing on the Parental Involvement-Title I policy was held. Supt. Moles explained the rationale for the policy and the proposed changes to the policy. There being no public comment on the policy the hearing was adjourned.

Supt. Moles outlined the proposed policy revisions.

A motion was made by Gerdes and seconded by Borcher to approve the revisions to the following policies: 5001 (Admissions Requirements), 5002 (Discontinuation of Enrollment), 5003 (Grade Placement), 5007 (Foreign Exchange Students), 5008 (Student Attendance), 5009 (Attendance During School Day), 5101 (Student Discipline), 5104 (Drug Free Schools), 5165 (Prom), 5195 (Student Fees), 5195.1 (Student Fees List), 5201 (Promotion and Retention), 5204 (Grading System), 5204.1 (Class Rank), 5205 (Graduation), 5207 (Make-Up Work), 5401 (Equal Opportunities), 5406 (Search and Seizure), 5415 (Anti-Bullying), 6113 (School Day for Staff), and 6410 (Parental Involvement-Title I), 6800 (Internet Safety), and to delete policies 5242 (Requirements for Graduation) and 5242 (Number of Classes Per Semester). Roll call vote: Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes. Carried 6-0.

Supt. Moles, Principal Gottschalk and Principal Lester outlined the proposed revisions to the Elementary Student-Parent, Secondary Student-Parent, and Activities handbooks.

A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Borcher to approve the Elementary Student-Parent, Secondary Student-Parent, and Activities handbooks as presented. Roll call vote: Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes. Carried 6-0.

A motion was made by Gerdes and seconded by Goracke to set breakfast prices at $1.10, grades PK-5 lunch at $1.50, grades 6-12 lunch at $2.00, and adult lunch at $2.75. Roll call vote: Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes. Carried 6-0.

Supt. Moles provided information to the Board on the school website, school song, bus radios, bus routes, mascot vote, and Music Boosters.

A recess was declared at 9:36 p.m.

The meeting was reconvened at 9:45 p.m.

A motion was made by Gerdes and seconded by Hunzeker to enter executive session for the purpose of discussing negotiations. Roll call vote: Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes. Carried 6-0.

Entered executive session at 9:45 p.m.

A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Gerdes to leave executive session. Roll call vote: Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes. Carried 6-0.

Left executive session at 10:40 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:41 p.m., with the next regularly scheduled meeting to be held in the media center of the in Cook at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007.
