REGULAR MEETING
October 8, 2007

The Johnson County School District No. 0050 Board of Education met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2007, in the high school cafeteria in Tecumseh. A current copy of the agenda was available for inspection in the office of the Superintendent prior to the meeting.
Steve Nolte called the meeting to order at 8:40 p.m. and stated that a copy of the Open Meetings Law was available for review.
A motion was made by Hunzeker and seconded by Gerdes to approve the minutes of the September 12, 2007, regular meeting and September 17, 2007 special meetings. Roll call vote: Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes. Carried 6-0.
A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Borcher to approve General Fund claims in the amount of $567,313.17. Roll call vote: Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes. Carried 6-0.
Moved Old Business item “Band Uniforms” up in the meeting. A presentation was made by Andrew Johnson on the proposed uniforms. Discussion was held with representatives of the Music Boosters.
A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Gottula to pay $25,000 toward the purchase of new band uniforms, pending an agreement by the Music Boosters to provide the remaining $13,000. Roll call vote: Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes. Carried 6-0.

BOARD COMMITTEE REPORT
PRINCIPALS’ REPORTS
Principal Skwarek reported on the following:
- The Morrison-McCall Spelling Report was discussed.
- Attendance for parent-teacher conferences at the Tecumseh Elemenetary site was about 97%.
- The Math Portfolio State Review will take place on January 23.
- The elementary report cards are almost complete. The staffs from both sites worked together to develop a district-wide report card.
Principal Gottschalk reported on the following:
- During the curriculum day on Friday, October 12, middle school and high school teachers will receive training on working with ELL students.
- Middle school Student Council elections are taking place.
- Attendance for parent-teacher conferences at the Cook site included 92% for the elementary and 75% for the middle school.
Principal Lester reported on the following:
- Homecoming was a successful venture.
- Report cards will be distributed shortly after the end of the quarter.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Superintendent Moles reported on the following:
- Veterans Day programs will be held at both sites on Monday, November 12.
- The ECNC Volleyball Tournament brackets were distributed.
- New regulations on how schools handle 403(b) plans for employees have been established by the IRS. Supt. Moles and Terry Kerr will attend a workshop on this issue.
- The latest enrollment figures were distributed. There are currently 529 students attending Johnson County Central.
- The final piece of the school song has been delivered by Daniel Kettelhake and Nate Morrissey. Compensation was discussed.
- Johnson County Central has been invited to join the Nebraska Pioneer Conference. A comparison study of the NPC and ECNC was discussed. No decisions will be made until at least November.
- The Superintendent evaluation instrument was distributed. Individual Board members will complete the instrument, then the Board will compile a joint instrument before meeting with Supt. Moles
FUTURE DATES
The State Education Conference will be held in Omaha on November 15 and 16.

A motion was made by Borcher and seconded by Goracke to approve revisions of the following Board of Education policies: 1010 (Visiting School), 1030 (Parent/Patron Comment), 1040 (Annual Report), 1060 (Advertising and Promotion), 1070 (Publications, Radio, and Television), 1080 (School Directory), 1100A (Maintenance/Use Frees-Fee Schedule), 1100B (Contract for Use of School Buildings and Grounds), 1100C (Release and Indemnification Agreement), 1110 (Bulletin Boards, Display Cases), 1300 (Fund Raising Activities), 1310 (Gifts to the School District), and 4140 (Professional Growth). Roll call vote: Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes. Carried 6-0.
A motion was made by Goracke and seconded by Hunzeker to accept the resignation of Kim Seeba. Roll call vote: Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes. Carried 6-0.
A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Goracke to enter executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel and legal issues. Roll call vote: Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes. Carried 6-0.
Entered executive session at 10:35 p.m.
A motion was made by Nolte and seconded by Borcher to leave executive session. Roll call vote: Gerdes-yes Goracke-yes, Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes. Carried 6-0.
Left executive session at 11:20 p.m.
A motion was made by Borcher and seconded by Hunzeker to adjourn the meeting. Roll call vote: Gottula-yes, Hunzeker-yes, Nolte-yes, Borcher-yes, Gerdes-yes, Goracke-yes. Carried 6-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:22 p.m., with the next regularly scheduled meeting to be held in the media center in Cook at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2007.
