Johnson County Central FFA Officers attend Nationals
by Christy Hodges
November 15, 2007
Newly formed Johnson County Central FFA Chapter embraced the
opportunity to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis,
Indiana. The National FFA Convention is the nationâs largest annual
youth gathering, welcoming students, parents and educators from all
across the United States. Megan Weber, Lisa Niedermeyer, Kendra
Gerdes, Rachel Kettelhake, Kaleb Kuhlman, and Jared Niedermeyer
were able to experience the 80th National FFA Convention.
Accompanying the students was their advisor, Mrs. Christy Hodges
and parent sponsor, Debbie Niedermeyer. This group had the
opportunity to listen to motivational speakers such as Henry
Winkler (the âFonzâ on Happy Days), attend workshops, watch the top
chapters compete in events such as Parliamentary Procedure, and
participate in the career fair that covered more than 260,000
square feet in 13,000 booths including businesses, industry,
colleges and universities. Certainly a highlight of the trip was
meeting the Beach Boys and John Stamos during a photo and autograph
opportunity and then enjoying their concert later that evening.
FFA is a national youth organization of 500,823 student members
preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and
technology of agriculture with 7,358 local chapters in all 50
states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA strives to make a
positive difference in the lives of students by developing their
potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career
success through agricultural education.
