The National FFA Alumni Association, in partnership with Toyota, announced their Can HungerâÃÂÃÂMillion-Can Challenge, that Johnson County Central FFA went right to work on. This special project provided service-learning opportunities for FFA members to connect with their communities through canned food drives.
The National FFA Alumni Association has selected one state in various Toyota sales regions to host a Can HungerâÃÂÃÂMillion-Can Challenge! event. Nebraska was fortunate to be selected. Our state will receive Washington Leadership Conference and National FFA Alumni State Leaders Conference scholarships valued at a total of $3,000 to be used as incentives and awards. The hours FFA members spend on the project can also be submitted to the Million Hour Challenge initiative for service learning.
Johnson County Central FFA will be recognized with the possibility of receiving a scholarship at the State FFA Convention in April. Mrs.Hodges, JCC FFA advisor is proud to announce that we collected 1332 items and nearly $400. All items were donated and will be utilized by our local food bank, SENCA Johnson County Branch.
Junior FFA Members Katie Hupka and Kyle Dieckgrafe designed and led this project. This two person team set up a point system that would challenge JCC students to participate in the âÃÂÃÂScavenger HuntâÃÂàfood drive. Each day for a two week period students were asked to bring in items to receive points. Every other day a âÃÂÃÂDaily DoubleâÃÂàwas announced, in which the students would receive double points for that specific item. Examples of the âÃÂÃÂDaily DoublesâÃÂàincluded items, such as, a box of Kleenex, box of Mac nâÃÂàCheese, Box of Cereal, and Quarters.
The winners were the 4th Grade Class in the elementary and the Junior class in the High School. Thank you to JCC Administration, parents, and students for making this such a big SUCCESS! FFA Members contributing time to this project was Katie Hupka, Kyle Dieckgrafe, Megan Weber, Kendra Gerdes, Abby Scheer, Joe Mannshreck, Lance Laug, and John Kirchdorfer.
