Earth Day

This month we are discussing and trying to promote some earth-friendly habits. To begin our unit on taking care of our earth we decided to save our trash from snack time for one week. We were amazed at the amount of trash we collected. There were so many milk cartons and we wondered how much paper is used to make them.
We read stories about how we could help take care of our earth. We learned that even though we are just little children we can do little things that make a big difference in taking care of this planet on which we live.
With the help of the second grade students we picked up many bags of trash on our school grounds. We cleaned up parking lots, the school yards, and the playground and track area. It was so much fun and we felt good about doing something special for our community. What a great earth day project!
This week we will make our earth day promises and stamp our green hand for a hand-some earth day display. We will enjoy songs and fingerplays about recycling and will have a special snack of dirt cake and gummy worms. Yum! Yum!
