"Specialists" Visit the Special Education Room

by Amanda Haufle

May 06, 2008

Throughout the school year we have had a variety of specialists visit the elementary special education room in Cook.  Students and teachers enjoy the fun activities, bright faces, and wealth of knowledge that these specialists have brought.  Those that have visited Ms. Haufle's room this past year, and continue to visit up until the very end, include: the Speech/Language Pathologist, two Occupational Therapists, the Southeast Region Autism Coordinator, and an Assistive Technology Specialist.

In many cases, students with special needs do more than come to class in the resource room.  They get to meet new people that help with troubles in all different areas.  It has always seemed to me that on days with these special visitors the students get to experience hands on learning and work with exciting trained professionals.  Whether it is picking pennies out of silly putty to strengthen the muscles in the fingers, pulling a heavy load of books down the hall in a tote, or Ms. Haufle learning new ways to teach the students, we appreciate all of the "special" visitors we have had in the resource room this year.  Without their help, our needs wouldn't be met.
