2010-2011 School Year
By Jon Rother
The school year is off and running! I am enjoying the principalship and the spontaneity that the position brings with it. I have enjoyed meeting with the staff and also with the parents and students I have met at our various open houses.
Here are some things to consider:
Please, try not to bring your students before 8:00 am, unless they are here to eat breakfast, as there is no supervision prior to that time.
- We highly encourage you to have your child/children wear closed-toe sneakers/tennis shoes to school. This is for safety issues. Sandals, flip flops and other variations of open-toe shoes can become a concern when children are running, ascending/descending stairs and climbing on playground equipment. The sole of the shoe can catch on the ground, a stair or a bar causing an accident. Also, sneakers/tennis shoes are a requirement for PE class. If your child wears sandals or flip-flops to school, you need to provide some kind of tennis shoes or sneakers for PE. These shoes can be left at school or sent on an “as needed” basis.
- Please read through your handbook, sign and send back the receipt form.
- Start forming routines for your children (i.e. wake up time, breakfast, study time, bed time).
- Make sure students get enough sleep. This is very important for physical and mental growth.
- You are encouraged to visit school and see what is going on. However, please limit the length of your visit and communicate with the classroom teacher well in advance.
- Always check-in at the office when visiting the school.
- Develop a solid communication network with your children’s teachers. When parents and teachers work together a child’s success is inevitable.
Have a great school year!
