Tanya Crotty- 5th grade
January 23, 2011

I hope everyone had a great break! I believe all in 5th grade did.  Now we have to get ourselves back into the routine of day to day school.  It won't take long to remember what we need to do.

With second semester comes more responsibility of the student.  There are daily reminders that we always need to give our work our very best effort, so that we can receive our very best grade.  It is hard to believe that 5th grade is half over.  We still have a lot of territory to cover before the end of the year.

In math, we are starting to learn about decimal numbers.  This tends to be a difficult concept to grasp, however we are doing a fabulous job.  Social studies is interesting because we are learning about how the colonists dumped all the tea into the Boston Harbor causing the Boston Tea Party. This time in history contributes many important dates and events that we will be learning about. With our new reading series, we are covering ground, and some of it is all new to us.  Boy will we be ready for Junior High!!!!  Some days it seems like a lot of work, but a lot of work is what we need to do to be ready for testing and Junior High.

Friday we watched “Kids on the Block” .  It was a puppet show that taught us about how to ask people to stop bullying us.  We also learned that words can be hurtful and that once the words come out of our mouth, there is no way to put them back.  This was a very important lesson that was a great reminder about how important our behaviors and words are.

We are looking forward to an outing to Peru State College in March.  We will be participating in “Water Celebration 2012”.  There will be many hands-on water activities to participate in and learn from.  We can't wait for this day to come!
