ELL News

September 14, 2015

The year is off to a great start.  We have been busy working on the four main goals of the ELL classroom – improving Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  To help with meeting these goals, the High School received a new reading series this fall.  Our ELL classroom received new adaptive reader books that will compliment what goes on in the regular classroom.  This new series offers updated reading selections that will both interest and challenge the students.  We are excited to have new materials to work with that will enhance learning at the high school level.

This fall we also received quite a number of new students.  We want to welcome them to our school and the ELL program.  It is always exciting when someone new comes in and the older students can help someone else learn English.  Those first few months in a new city can be very difficult, and we are lucky to have such helpful and empathic students at JCC.

Hope your school year is off to a great start – I know ours is!
