ELL News for September

September 12, 2016

The goal of the English Language Learner Program is for all students in Kindergarten thru 12th grade to improve their skills in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking in English.

The High School and Middle School students started off the year working on story and academic vocabulary. An understanding of the words is the best place to start when reading higher level literature. High School students have been working on a study of myths and legends, while Middle School has been working on the elements of fiction and non-fiction.

I am amazed at the growth of our Elementary Students, not only in height but also in English! Students were excited to be back in school and learn more vocabulary and stories. Thanks to all the parents for all you have done over the summer to help your students improve their skills in the English Language! We will continue to use our Reading Street series during the elementary ELL time.

Finally, I would like to welcome our five Newcomers to the program. It is always exciting when we have new students, especially students who come from different countries and speak different languages. This is a great opportunity for all students to learn about life in other countries, learn empathy, and make some new friends.
