Junior High Volleyball Week One

September 14, 2016

2016 JCC Junior High Volleyball

Junior High Volleyball got under way this week. It is going to be a tough first week with games on Tuesday, Thursday and a tournament on Saturday. This does not give the teams a lot of time to make corrections for the next game.

Tuesday was a home game versus the Palmyra Panthers. The C team played 1 set, while the B and A teams played complete matches. The C team won their set, the B team lost both their sets and the A team lost both their sets.

The girls who played in the C team game include Madison Adams, Jazmin Cabrales, Jennifer Castor, Stephanie Cruz, Vicky Pinedo and Emma Straka. The girls played with a lot of enthusiasm and served very well. Their serving proved to be the difference in the game. Palmyra struggled making their serves over while the Thunderbirds only missed a few. That made all the difference in the game. Emma did a great job of serving the last few points for the win.

The B team played next. The girls who played in this game include Jordan Albrecht, Kaita Baird, Cheshire Burger, Kathia Castor, Gina Golden, Madelyn Harrifeld, Vanessa Jimenez, Madison Pingel, Ruby Valles, Emma Walters and Bella Wolter. Both sets were very competitive!  The girls would get an early lead on Palmyra, but would give them opportunities to get back in the game.  We would miss a couple serves or hit the ball out. During the game a few of our inexperienced players really started figuring it out. They were more aggressive at the net and found some great success.  It is fun watching girls come around during a game and really start understanding how it all works.

The last game of the night was the A team game. Those who played include Ava Berkebile, Saydee Hardesty, Kylie Kleespies, Katie Little, Dakotah Ludemann, Morgan Moran, Hayley Neemann, Zadie Plager, Saylor Rother, Emma Swanda and Shayla Thompson. This was a game where we never got a break. Close balls were always out, when the ball hit the net it never rolled to the other side for us and our serving was not as aggressive as it has been at practice. Almost every time we touched the ball we would get it set up, while the other team would just free ball it over. The girls worked really hard to get the fundamentals of volleyball to work in their favor. It just did not work for them this game, but it will. These girls will work hard and get it figured out.

Thursday we travel to Wilber-Clatonia for a full night of games. The C team will play first, followed by the B team and then the A team. Wilber-Clatonia always has very competitive teams. It should prove to be a great night of volleyball.
