5th Grade News

April 18, 2017

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter break.  The weather was amazing!  It is so refreshing to see all the beautiful flowers blooming and the cute calves playing in the pastures.

We had a great time in March when we went over to Peru State College for the Water Celebration.  It was provided by the UN extension service.  It was an awesome day learning about our environment, water, trees, and density of an object.

This time of year also brings testing season.  We have taken 2 of our NeSA tests, math and ELA.  It was nice to have a week off between these tests.  It gives us a chance to re-group and get ready for the next round.  We found that some of the questions were easy, some required us to work them out on paper, and some were not so easy, but we did our very best.  The last NeSA test we have to take is science.  These tests will be April 25th and 26th.  Remember that a good nights’ sleep and a good breakfast are key to our success on our tests.

We also have MAPS testing that will be starting in May.  These tests are also very important for our future and we need to be prepared for them just like we have been for the NeSA tests.  The dates will soon be posted, so watch the weekly bulletin and remember to recharge your brain and body with a good nights’ sleep and a good breakfast each day.

With the end of the year just around the corner, we have a lot to accomplish yet in fifth grade.  We have some days off to work around and therefore, we are working extra hard to get all the materials covered that we need to before the end of the year.

We are finding that math is getting complicated trying to keep straight fractions and simplifying or reducing them.  We work on them daily and continue to make progress.

Our schedule is very busy, but we will keep our focus and continue to work hard and put in the effort needed to bring us success.   We try to work in an extra recess when we can on these really nice days.

We hope you have an amazing Spring and an even better Summer.
