2016-17 Preview:

The JCC Boys Basketball returns to action for the 2016-17 for the second season under Head Coach Kirk Faris. The Thunderbirds will compete in the Class C2-2 Subdistrict, along with Elmwood-Murdock, Freeman and Palmyra. The C2-2 Subdistricts will be held in the Norris Middle School Gym on February 21st & 23rd, 2017.

2015-16 News:

The JCC Boys Basketball team has received the #2 A Division seed in the 87th Annual MUDECAS Basketball Tournament. The JCC Boys lost to #7-seed Freeman, 39-59, on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will now face HTRS on Saturday, Jan. 16th at 1:15 p.m. at the Auditorium. The full boys bracket is available for download here (PDF).

JCC senior Mitch Faris has surpassed 1,000 career points after scoring 7 pts in a 47-30 victory over the Class C-2 No. 8 Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines. Faris is now third all-time in points scored in JCC boys basketball with 1,004 (as of 1/7/16), trailing only Justin Kosmicki (1,779 points) and Nate Kuhl (1,438).

2015-16 Preview:

The Thunderbirds head into the 2015-16 season coming off a 18-7 record last year. JCC will be under the helm of new head coach Kirk Faris, a veteran JCC football and basketball coach. Faris replaces Chris Hutt, who retired with a career record of 428-287, including a record of 142-56 (71.7%) at JCC. Also returning as an assistant coach is Ben Swanson. Former JCC basketball standout Derek Kuhl also joins the Thunderbird staff this year. 

Returning starters from last year's team include Mitch Faris (1st Team All-Conference), Sam Sterup (Honorable Mention All-Conference) and Nate Liberty. Other returning letterwinners include Austin Doty and Mason Waring. 

"Despite the graduation of five seniors from last year’s team, the Johnson County Central Boys Basketball Team is looking to improve on last year’s 18-7 record. It will not be an easy task with a difficult schedule that will push the team to improve every night out. This schedule should help prepare us for postseason play when we want to be at our best," said Head Coach Kirk Faris.

JCC is classified in Class C-1 and competes in the C1-1 District with Auburn, Fairbury, Falls City and Wilber-Clatonia.
