ELL News

September 11, 2017

The new focus in the ELL room is on setting learning goals. Students in Middle and High School have been working with both the English Language Arts and English Language Proficiency standards and making them into their own learning goals that we will work on throughout the year. Students are re-writing the goals in their own words, and then we are measuring their progress on achieving these goals. The students and I am very excited about using this new way to view the importance of our learning and looking for ways for everyone to improve and succeed in learning the English language. When the elementary grades have completed all their MAP testing, I will be working on learning goals with them as well.

This year we have four new students joining our program. I am always excited when I receive new students because this is an excellent opportunity for my other students to be leaders. Our JCC students are always willing to help show new students around, explain things, and get them acclimated to the new environment. In addition to four new students, I also have a new aide in my classroom, Mrs. Lada. The students are looking forward to getting to work with Mrs. Lada throughout the year.

Lastly, I hope that you and your family are enjoying participating in One Book, One School. This program is for all students in grades preschool through eighth. Literacy is so important to the success of every child, and I hope that every family uses this opportunity to do this at home. As a school, we are very proud we are able to provide copies in Spanish of the books chosen this year to those families in need of them. Many of my students have already told me how much fun it has been to go home and have a book to read with their moms and dads. Great job and keep reading!
