Welcome to Fifth Grade

By Mrs. Tubbesing

August 28, 2017

The fifth graders have had an awesome start to the 2017-2018 school year. Each fifth grade classroom has seventeen students. There is one new student in fifth grade this year and she is in Mrs. Tubbesing's room, Zoe Lamb. Zoe is a talented and wonderful young lady and she is a fantastic addition to fifth grade. If you have a chance to visit with Zoe, please ask her about some of the seventeen countries she has visited. Welcome, Zoe!

This year in science, we will spend the first semester learning about dinosaurs along with all the Nebraska state standards. During the second semester, the fifth graders will have the opportunity to raise trout as they continue with the state science standards. In late April or early May, the trout will be released in a spring fed stream by the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium.

In math and language arts, the fifth grade students are continuing to use Saxon Math and Reading Street. They have quickly adjusted back to the routines of those series.

Deputy Lynn Lyon will be teaching DARE once a week for ten weeks at the beginning of the school year. The fifth graders enjoy DARE and are looking forward to Deputy Lyon's visits.

It is great to be back to school and the fifth graders are going to have an exciting year filled with  many learning opportunities!
