Thanks to PTO & Wish Tree Project Sponsors

From Mrs. Faris and First Graders

April 05, 2022

Mrs. Faris’s First Graders recently completed a unit in their new Wonders Reading materials about building bridges, homes, buildings, tiny homes, yurts, and ships. To complete this unit, students had to design and draw a bridge that would connect their home to our school with a river running between them. They illustrated this on paper and then they wrote about their bridges. They had to explain the type - arch, suspension, cable-stayed, drawbridge, or a one of a kind they designed on their own. They had to explain their building materials and  how the structure would be sturdy enough using cables, wires, concrete, and/or steel. They had some great ideas and their illustrations were terrific!

After this project students then went from station to station around the classroom to use different types of building materials to see what they could design next, and ways to make the different surfaces work together. Through the generosity of the PTO Committee and those that sponsored our classroom with the gifts of these learning blocks, the students had a marvelous time figuring out how to work together, solve problems, and make decisions about their project. Some students wanted to work individually and others wanted to team up. Thank you to those who reached out to provide us with great learning tools. We will enjoy these for many years to come!
