Don't forget! There will be a silent auction and baked potato feed at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9th before the middle school winter music concert at 7:00 p.m. The high school band has rounded up many items to auction off including quilts, gift certificates, various baskets, a bluetooth stereo, and two tickets to ERIC CHURCH! Junior High Volleyball got under way this week. It is going to be a tough first week with games on Tuesday, Thursday and a tournament on Saturday. This does not give the teams a lot of time to make corrections for the next game. Tuesday was a home game versus the Palmyra Panthers. The C team played 1 set, while the B and A teams played complete matches. The C team won their set, the B team lost both their sets and the A team lost both their sets. Once or twice a month during the 2015-2016 school year, the fifth grade students have been studying dinosaurs. During the first semester, each student picked a dinosaur to study. The students have researched, written reports, given presentations, and built a replica of their dinosaurs. The dinosaur models are displayed in the common areas by the middle school's new gym. The sixth grade choir has started working on their music videos. I started this project with the sixth graders last year and it turned out to be a great project for them during this down time in January. We have a number of different groups using a various genres of music; everything from classic rock to hip hop. The students really get to open up their creative abilities with this project and I hope to continue it in the future. We’re always keeping things interesting and exciting in Room 107! Currently, the students are participating in a Harry Potter themed ‘House Cup Competition’! Students are divided into ‘houses’ in the classroom, with 1-3 other students in their group. The ‘houses’ work together to earn points for themselves, to earn a reward during the week of Thanksgiving. The ‘house’ with the most points on Monday, November 23 will be declared the winner! The Johnson County Central Cross Country team is seeking enthusiastic and motivated 7th and 8th grade boys and girls to join the team. The JCC Cross Country team has sent two teams to the State Cross Country meet the last 2 years and is looking for new members to join the program and continue to build this tradition. The Middle School team competes in 6 meets during the season, culminating with the Jr. High State Cross Country Meet in Papillion, and everyone gets to run each meet. . . .

I cannot believe how fast the year is going! We are beginning the fourth quarter already. I have enjoyed my first year of teaching at Johnson County Central! In music, the 6th grade class created music videos to some of their favorite songs. Using iOS devices, these students created their own videos to match the songs. This semester in 6th grade choir we a starting out with a project. All of the 6th graders are creating music videos. They picked their own groups (if they wanted to be in one) and have picked their songs. This is a creative project for them with almost no guidelines – except that they must participate – to bring out some creative thinking.
