Jolly Holiday Reading

By Mrs. Peters

December 11, 2015

Here in the elementary library we are checking out many wonderful Christmas stories to read for Accelerated Reading and just for fun. If you parents are searching for a last minute gift for your children or whole family, might I suggest a Christmas storybook?

Spend some special holiday time reading cherished Christmas classics like The Night Before Christmas and A Strega Nona Christmas or read a new holiday story like Little Blue Truck’s Christmas.

Here is a list of recommended Christmas books that will make excellent gifts for your young reader.

Picture books:

Christmas Farm by Mary Lyn Ray              Mr. Willoughby’s Christmas Tree by Robert E. Barry

The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski

Dream Snow by Eric Carle                             Baseball Bats for Christmas by Michael Kusugak

There are many more delightful Christmas books than I can ever put on this list. Remember that even though picture books are for primary aged children most books are written on a 2nd-4th grade reading level. We have many of these books in our school libraries but each year we can’t resist adding a couple more because everyone wants to check out a holiday book this time of year and we hope that you add one to your home library too. Reading makes the season bright!
