ELDA Testing - ELL News

By Weber, Lisa on February 06, 2015

It is time again for the yearly ELDA Testing.   ELDA stands for English Language Development Assessment.  This state test assesses students’ abilities in English in the form of reading, writing, speaking and listening.  The ELDA is one tool we use to measure the improvements in our language learner students, from year to year.  All ELL students in grades Kindergarten thru Twelfth Grade will participate in this state test.  Students in grades Kindergarten thru Second Grade are assessed and observed within their classroom, by their regular classroom teacher.  For students Third Grade and above, they will take a written test, as well as an oral test in the ELL room.  Testing this year will run February 9 – February 20.

To help your ELL student be as prepared as possible, it is important to make sure students get a healthy breakfast those mornings of testing, as well as enough sleep at night.  I am always impressed by how hard all of my students work on these tests.  They are always excited to demonstrate how much they have learned in the last year, on their way to mastering the English Language.  As always, we receive the results of this test in July and your student’s results will be mailed home during the first weeks of school next year.
