JCC Students Participate in the Nebraska State Skills USA Leadership Conference

Twenty six JCC students traveled to Grand Island to participate in the Nebraska Skills USA Leadership Conference, April 11th-13th. They competed in various events, two teams and four individuals placed in the top three in their events. This is the first year that JCC has had a Skills USA chapter and currently has forty three members. We hope to grow this number next year. High School Students Help Kindergartners Make Easter Projects

On Thursday, March 21st, three JCC Skills USA members, Hailey Stafford-Thompson, Rue Kuhl, and Amillia Gentert, along with some other high school volunteers, Harley Lubben, Kaityn Schuster, and Dahlia Duran, helped students in the kindergarten classes create some Easter projects. AcaDeca Qualifies for State! (Regionals Results)

2023-2024 Academic Decathlon Regionals Results On Wednesday January 17th, the JCC Academic Decathlon students took four online tests for regional testing. They took test in the subjects of Art, Music, Economics and Math. Then on Saturday January 20th , the team traveled to Nebraska City to take two final tests in Literature and Science. 30th Annual Freshmore Clinic

JCC will host the 30th Annual Freshmore Clinic on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023. This is a clinic Mr. Doran started in 1994 to help strengthen the younger voices (Freshmen and Sophomores) for choirs from area schools. Truck Driving Program - Opportunity to Start in High School

Striv PSA: Beat Distracted Driving

The JCC Striv Crew has won $2,000 from the National Safety Council with their PSA on distracted driving! Congratulations to the Striv Crew!  There is a banner located in the HS Computer Lab that all staff & students can sign, pledging to beat distracted driving. 2022 MUDECAS Basketball Tournament

The brackets have been released for the 2022 MUDECAS Basketball Tournament held in Beatrice, Nebraska. ECNC BB Update: The Boys 3rd Place Game (JCC vs Mead) has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb 9th at 6:00 PM (@ Mead). Spectator protocols for the games at SCC-Lincoln include:  Each spectator/cheerleader is required to have a ticket to get in. Each school will receive 250 color specific tickets for each game. Art 2: One Point Perspective Names

Art 2 students used their knowledge of one point perspective to create their names. They filled the face of each letter with personal symbols, patterns, and color schemes. The one point perspective names have been the groundwork for our next assignment, which is a two point perspective of the courthouse in Tecumseh.

HS Art: Self Portrait Collages

The art students were asked to create a Self Portrait Collage through the use of their Apple Pencils and the Procreate App. Each student was responsible for telling a story through each layer and element of their artwork. With the use of grant money the art department was able to purchase both the Apple Pencils and the Procreate App. Both of which are essential to move our art department into a new and exciting direction: Digital Art!

Art News: New Tech

This year, ten advanced art students have the opportunity to add Apple Pencils and the creative app Procreate to their bag of art tools! This additional technology allows the students to generate art digitally providing the development of skills used in the graphic design industry.  Ms. Sisco, the current Art Student Teacher from Peru State College, is using the Apple Pencil to add color to the coat-of-arms for the Middle School House Eternal. All of the House Eternal members were given the option to design the color scheme . . .

SENCA Smart Financial Literacy Program

On Tuesday, October 1st, all JCC seniors participated in the SENCA Smart (Strategic Money and Resource Techniques) financial literacy program. Students learned what it would be like to live in poverty and resources available to help in times of financial hardships. SENCA employees along with several volunteers from the Tecumseh community participated to make this event a success.

ACT Study Sessions

JCC will be having ACT study sessions before the October ACT test. If you are a student who is taking the ACT test on October 26th, you are strongly encouraged to participate in all of these, or at least some of these study sessions. These should help you to learn strategies to score better on your upcoming ACT test.   The study sessions are FREE OF CHARGE to students thanks to our college access grant. ¡Hola! We are finishing a wonderful year in Spanish. The students have worked hard and have surprised me and I think themselves with how much Spanish they can recognize and use. In Spanish I, we just finished a novel. It has been fun to see the kids engaged in the story and often not realizing that it is Spanish. This week they are making videos, topics of their choice, to sum up what they have acquired this year. I love seeing kids’ creative sides and am thinking that some videos from this year’s classes . . .

English I has been studying short stories as part of our texts and genres unit. We have just finished “Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and have been studying H.G. Johnson County Central Band Launches Shoe Drive Fundraiser to Raise Money for Music Boosters Tecumseh, Ne, 11/13/17– Johnson County Central Band is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser on Jan 3rd-Jan 31st to raise funds for music boosters and eventual band trip. JCC Band will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. This week students in Spanish 1 and 2 will begin working on their final project. They are in groups creating a video about any topic they choose. There has been talk of a cooking show, a game show and a recreation of past vacation trips. Many groups are still undecided, but I am very excited to see what they think up. This past semester has flown by. Recently, the kids presented some past vacations they had taken. They did a wonderful job. Fundraising for the Band Trip

The Johnson County Central band will be going on a full band trip to Cleveland, Ohio in May 2017. The band will be hosting a silent auction in December to help fundraise our trip. On Friday, April 1 high school members of the CAN group visited KUTT/KWBE radio station in Beatrice to record drug-free messages. These messages come from talkaboutalcohol.org and are directed at parents of teens. The students had fun recording the messages and they were so good at it we were done ahead of schedule. These students also visited Sunny 101.3 in Falls City to record the same messages. It was a fun learning experience. Parents can listen to these messages from April through June.

The Johnson County Central Student Council presents the Shamrock Showdown Dodgeball Tournament  on March 17th in the high school gym. Games will start at 6:00 p.m. Deadline for registration is March 7th . ELPA-21: A new assessment for English Language Learners

NeSA English Language Arts, Math and Science Testing

This year Mr. Moles’ dad is joining us once a week in the shop.  Mr. Moles has an abundance of knowledge in woodworking and other shop techniques.  One of the classes that he has helped the most is the construction class.  In construction this year, we have done many projects.  We started the year by helping the school nurse attach a countertop to her cabinets.  The students thought that this would be an easy job, but ran into some problems when they realized that the cabinets were particle board. . . .

PSA - Texting & Driving

The JCC Physics class conducted an experiment regarding texting and driving. We randomly surveyed junior and senior high school students along with equal number of teachers on their habits with cell phone usage in the vehicle.  Our findings demonstrated results slightly less than the national average, but consistent with patterns used by teens national. The JCC FFA Chapter competed at the  87th Nebraska State FFA Convention held April 8-10, 2015, in Lincoln. Three high school students attended the Region V Systems Legislative Day at the Nebraska State Capitol on Thursday, March 26 th . This year the coalitions partnered with Project Extra Mile to give the legislature information on issues regarding powdered alcohol, underage drinking, prescription drug monitoring and marijuana. FFA Named Monsanto Grow Communities Winner

On Friday, the Johnson County Central FFA Chapter received a check for $2,500 from Monsanto Fund as a part of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities.  Allan Beethe, of Johnson County, was selected as one of the Nebraska winners and designated the JCC FFA Chapter as recipient of the check.  “With the amount of members they have, it shows that  there is an interest in agriculture,” Beethe said. “It seemed like a good cause.” All chapter members were on hand for the check . . .

AcaDeca Heading to State!

The Johnson County Central Academic Decathlon team competed at Regionals on January 17, 2015. The nine students competed in seven events. There were six individual tests which included Language/Literature, Art, Music, Economics, Math, and Science. The last event of the day was Super Quiz. During Super Quiz pairs of students answered multiple choice questions over Social Science in front of a crowd.  Our Super Quiz team tied for first place. With a team score of 18,020, we have qualified for the state competition which is in Omaha . . .

Come watch the Thunderbird Basketball teams in the 2015 MUDECAS Basketball Tournament held in Beatrice, Neb., starting on January 12th.  FINAL UPDATE: The JCC Lady Thunderbirds finished the MUDECAS Tournament 1-1. Happenings in the Band Department

Johnson County Central FFA Land Judging Team of Samantha Teten, Isaac Buss, Cody Beethe, and Jessica Bohling has qualified to compete at Nationals after securing a 4th Place finish at the State Land Judging Competition held in McCook, Neb. on October 22nd. The Girls Cross Country Team of Angelica Wellman, Annika McDonald, Aleisha McDonald & Diana Cruz quailifed for state as well as Sam Saldivar from the boys team.  The state meet will be held at the Kearney Country Club this Friday, Oct. 24th. We have expanded our wonderful high school library and now have e-books available through the ESU #2 E-book Consortium. High School students and teachers will be able to check out e-books on their iPads. After one to two weeks, depending on the book, the book will disappear off the device and then more can be checked out. Contest Time Contest time is approaching in the music department! The HS band is diligently getting ready for MUDECAS contest as well as District Music Contest which JCC is hosting both this year. New Calculators in Math Classroom

I would like to recognize and thank the Tecumseh Public Schools Foundation Inc. for providing the funds to purchase 75 Texas Instruments-30XIIS scientific calculators for use in my math classroom.  These calculators will be checked-out to each of the students in Applied Math 1, Applied Math 2, Beginning Algebra, and Advanced Algebra classes this school year.  This will ensure each student has access to a calculator, as well as provide consistency in the class when it comes to learning new functions the calculators are capable . . .
